Population

The latest Census was undertaken in 2006 and the current estimated (2010) total population is 4,470,700. There will be a new census carried on April 10 this year.  With the greatest concentration of people on the east and south coasts, there’s a 50:50 overall split between Males and Females.

2/3 of population is aged 15-64,
21% are aged 14 or under and 11% are 65 years or over.
Notably, it is estimated that approximately 1/3rd of the Irish population are under 25.

Climate

The climate is relatively mild and temperatures are uniform throughout the country. The coldest months are January and February with average daily temperatures between 4ºC and 7ºC while July and August are the warmest (14ºC to 16ºC).
